Transmissions Quilts

PLACES

APE Ltd. Northampton, MA

June 16-20, 2026

supported by the ARC program

Join Transmissions Quilts for PLACES, an exhibition in Northampton, MA on view Tuesday June 16 to Saturday June 20 at APE Ltd through their ARC (Activate, Research, Create) summer residency program.

Transmissions is a project that hires trans artists to make gift quilts for individually nominated trans people. Quilts have always been used to celebrate life transitions and our project lives in that lineage, and many others. This show is part of our New England tour sharing quilts and additional art from our wonderful northeast artists. PLACES focuses particularly on quilts as performance - as 3d, alive objects that interact with light and wind and music and the daily rhythms of existence.

In addition to regular APE gallery hours, the week of June 15 offers two chances to experience our project.

June 16 we will be offering “Quilt in a Day,” led by Northampton artist Joey Dehais. A team of quilters will gather from 10am-10pm and complete an entire quilt. Visitors are encouraged to come by and experience us in progress at any point through the day. The quilt will be raffled through the week, culminating in our next event.

June 20 (the longest day of the year!) will be a larger night of performance among/underneath/within quilts. We’ll have performances from New England artists working across many mediums including drag, burlesque, animation, bodywork and music. Join us from 6pm-10pm to experience these very alive quilts.
