Join Transmissions Quilts, Midori Morrow and Esper Gaspardi for our show “Soft Edges” on view in Portland, ME from May 4-May 29th. The show will be held in the beautiful Light Manufacturing (@cassidypoint) by the water, where you’ll be able to experience a salty breeze ruffling through draped quilts.

“Soft Edges” is a show of trans textile+ objects out of Maine. We’ll be sharing quilts, tapestries and art objects from Transmissions: Quilts for Trans People, which were all made and delivered in New England (@t_bag_maine, @bally.hue, @maddy_quilts , @ovanhua). Midori Morrow will be sharing their cyanotypes, silk tapestries and other glowing orbs of light. Esper Gaspardi will bring us back to earth with plaster molded elk hooves and cyanotypes from the desert (Maine has desert!!!).

Open gallery hours Weds-Sundays from 12p-6p and we’ll have a number of workshops/live events we can’t wait to share with you. These will include t4t sewing days, trans bodywork underneath quilts, embroidery and cyanotype and poetry workshops. We’ve got a lot of stuff brewing and the only thing we’re missing is… well, you.

Mark your calendars especially for May 15th when we’ll have our exhibition reception with live music from @queerbeach. Travis is both a quilter and a musician and also so many other things… @finocchi will provide us with quilty foods (their food has been described as “poetry for your mouth”) which will be both free and available for purchase.

Are you a trans textile artist in New England and want to have a quilt in the show? Reach out. We’d love to share your stuff. Please also reach out if you want to use the space to offer a workshop or gathering. We intend this as a mixed-use community space.

Thank you to @apearts for co-sponsoring this show. A.P.E.’s programming is made possible in part through sustained support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts. Thank you also to @space538’s Kindling Fund and the Coby Foundation for generous support in making this exhibit possible.
